Pet Blessing 2

Fur and feather and scale and skin:
Different without, but the same within,
Strange of body, but one of soul,
Through all creatures are the Gods made whole.

Renewing the Spirit
A Spell for Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah celebrates the spiritual new year and the purification of the self to make it fit for the blessings of the deities. In Hebrew the word for this process is kiddishin, meaning “sanctification.” To begin your spiritual new year, whenever it might fall, start with a purification bath, known as mikvah in Hebrew. Light some candles and burn an incense to assist with spiritual awareness, such as sandalwood, myrrh, or frankincense. Mix up a small amount of nonirritating herbs and oils that share affinities with spirituality and purification, such as olive oil, lemon juice, peppermint leaves, vervain, chamomile, hyssop, or rosemary. As you soak, visualize the impurities of spirit being pulled from you so that they can be washed down the drain. Follow the bath with a private rededication ritual to your spiritual path.

Self Blessing

Take 3 deep breaths. Imagine a silver light flowing through your body. This is the energy of the Moon Goddess. Take 3 deep breaths and imagine a gold light flowing through your body. This is the energy of the Sun God. Take 3 deep breaths and imagine a white light flowing through your body. This is the combined energy of the Universal Life Force or Universal Love. Say the following:

“Blessed be my feet that walk the path of mystery.
Blessed be my knees that kneel at the sacred altar.
Blessed be my heart formed in beauty and love.
Blessed be my mouth that speaks the sacred names.”

Open your arms wide to reach out for protection and love. Close your arms slowly across your heart to signal that you have accepted these gifts. Then say:

“So mote it be!”

Sun Child Blessing
By Janina Renee

Because the sun promotes growth and health, a sun image is an appropriate charm for blessing a child. It is easy to find in jewelry, pillows, candle holders, and other objects. The sun card from a Tarot deck will also work. This card pertains to the birth and well being of children, some newer versions even picture a child riding a horse. Empower your object by holding it to the sun when you have good light. Visualize it being filled with warmth and power while saying:

“Child of light,
With eyes so bright,
Grow strong in health ad wholeness.”

At the same time, visualize the child in question surrounded by a radiant golden aura.

Blessing to Give Thanks
By Elizabeth Barrette

Around the world, people in many cultures give thanks for the food they eat every day. This is a wonderful custom that fits in with all Pagan traditions. This nondenominational Thanksgiving blessing can be used to give thanks:

“Nuts and berries, roots and leaves,
Bounty born of all that lives,
Fruit in trees and grain in sheaves;
Praise for all the good Earth gives!”

You can tailor this to suit your own religion by substituting any two-syllable name or word for “good Earth,” or any one-syllable term for Earth.
